The Elrics are cared for by their neighbour Winry Rockbell and her grandmother Pinako Rockbell. Their transmutation also creates a deformed corpse, which mysteriously disappears… Alphonse is saved, but can’t eat or sleep, and will die if the blood seal in his armour is broken. To save Al, Ed sacrifices his right arm to bind his brother’s soul to a suit of armour. Edward loses his left leg, whilst poor Alphonse loses his whole body. Alphonse is a lot kinder, has a thing for cats, and is a gentle soul, but don't mess with him or he'll destroy you. Edward is a bit of a hothead, is real sensitive about his height, but is smart and has a good heart. The Elrics have a talent for alchemy, deciding they should bring their mother back from the dead using the taboo human transmutation. Their father Hohenheim left the family years ago, whilst their mother Trisha Elric dies of vague disease syndrome. Our protagonists are brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric, who live in the rural village Resembool.
